George Washington in the Revolutionary War
The Smoothbore MusketAn essential weapon the British and Americans have used is the smoothbore musket. It is about 3 feet, eight inches, and fires a one-ounce lead ball. Each time after firing, it must be reloaded. This seems like a difficult process, first using a hammer like device, half-cocking it, and then the soldier would rip open a cartridge with their teeth sprinkling in a small amount of gunpowder. He would use a long metal road to push the powder, ball, and wadded up cartridge down into the end of the barrel. When the soldier pulls the trigger, the flintlock snaps forward and sparks ignite in the barrel pushing the ball out.
